Every year the newly appointed Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chilton, supported by fellow council members and the local community, raise money for our chosen charity, writes newly appointed Mayor, Cllr Sue Reece.
This year, we have chosen to support two areas that are not only very close to our hearts, but we know directly impact our community.
The first is Chilton Toy Appeal. This year there will be families who have to make the difficult decision between heating their home, buying food and essential items or giving a gift to their children.
We want to keep the magic alive by ensuring that every child and young person in Chilton has a gift to open on Christmas morning.
Secondly is Blood Cancer UK. Over 280,000 people of all ages are living with blood cancer (leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma) and 40,000 more are diagnosed each year.
Funding for research has already increased the life expectancy for all types of blood cancer and with continued support there is confidence that we will be able to beat it!
We will be organising a number of events, fundraisers and fun activities throughout the year and hope you can join us in making a difference to the lives of those affected.
If you could save the dates to join us for the launch of our fundraising activities and find out how you can support the Chilton Toy Appeal, we will be hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday 26 June from 10am-12noon at Hutton House.
Then, on Saturday 19 July, from 1pm-3pm, there will be Afternoon Tea at Pavilion Park.
