Shildon’s police team have proven to be some of the toughest bobbies around, after placing first in their heat of the recent ‘It’s a Knockout’ charity competition.
Shildon ‘Beat Team Barbarians’ as they were aptly named, were one of sixteen teams of ten who battled it out in the event which featured zany games involving plenty of foam and water, similar to those featured in the 1970s programme.
The competition was held at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club on Sunday 26th September, where the cold and windy weather didn’t stop the teams having an enormous amount of fun and raising thousands of
pounds for the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
Just some of the teams the ten policemen fought off were Bishop Auckland’s Asda, Lush Hair & Beauty, and even The Bishop Press!
They weren’t quite quick enough to become overall winners of the day, however, after managers from the new Sainsbury’s store at St Helens managed to gain more points than the boys in blue when they took part in the second heat. The group beat teams from Charity day was a Knockout!
The Rugby Club, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Saks Hairdressers as well as five others.
The day was such a success that Barabara Fountain from the Butterwick Hospice has already booked the event for next year on Sunday 19th June.
There is a maximum number of 20 teams so anyone interested in taking part should get their names down early!
