Charity Cricket Match

The 24th Annual Charity Cricket Match between the Doctors and the Bishop Auckland C.C. Social Club took place on Sunday, August 16th, at The Kingsway Ground.

Umpire, Max Oldfield was joined by John Phelan for this year’s game. Nathan Gnanavelu captained the Doctors X1, while Jeff Sawyer captained the Social Club team. Nathan Gnanavelu brought some of his Coundon team-mates with him.

Unfortunately, the three of them only contributed 5 runs between them as Nathan’s side batted first. Michael Sneath made 14 runs, but their top scorer was 13 year-old Mudaru Senanayake who made 16 runs. The Doctors X1 finished on 107 all out.

Matthew Cowling and Alistair Wild opened up for the Social Club team but Cowling was out first ball. Alistair Wild went on to make 21 but Craig George was top scorer with 28 which included a huge straight six. That score earned him the Man of the Match title. David Garnett 14 not out and Alan Lamb 22 not out were together charity cricket match when the Social Club finally rubbed the score off.

In the clubhouse afterwards Doctor Kash Dissanayake thanked everone who had contributed to the day, particularly the staff at the Accident and Emergency Unit at Bishop Auckland General Hospital and the match sponsors, Butler and Gee of Barnard Castle. Everyone who played and the two umpires received a memento of the day.

A sumptious buffet had been prepared and everyone tucked into that while the raffle, which had 89 prizes was drawn.
