Due to Byerley Road Pre-School having to close early for the half term holidays in October, their tins were not collected to be counted within the 1000 Can Challenge on Sunday 29th October at Saint John’s Church.
Kathryn Jennings and Kelly Maychell from Shildon Alive! visited the children last week to collect their contribution of 72 cans towards the 2,667 that had already been counted, taking the total to 2,739. Kathryn Jennings, advocate at Shildon Alive said: “The opportunity to visit such young children and explain how they are supporting the community was fantastic.
“We spoke about sharing and I thanked them for all their hard work.
“The children at the Pre- School collect food all year round for Shildon Alive! and its a great way for them to be involved within the project as well as recognising the importance of sharing with others.
“We would like to say well done and thank you to the staff, parents and children involved, we are grateful for your continued support.”
