A collection tin for this year’s Poppy Appeal was among the items stolen when Fudge Hair Design in Church Street suffered a break-in between 5pm on Monday and 7.30am on Tuesday 14th November.
Thieves forced open the back door of the premises before ripping out two tills and stealing the full poppy jar, which contained donations to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal from
the shop’s customers.
One of the tills was found abandoned in a nearby garden while the emptied poppy tin, was discovered in St John’s churchyard.
The thieves also tried to break into the next door Foundations premises and when they couldn’t, they stole a mountain bike, children’s toys and cooking equipment from a shed located at the back of the premises.
Owner of the hairdresser’s, Kelly Sparke said: “The tills are no problem as we can easily replace them, but what kind of person steals donations to the Poppy Appeal for servicemen who have given themselves to the protection of our country?”
