Staff and service users from the Broom Lodge Residential Home in Ferryhill, a residential home for adults with learning disabilities and autism, have come together to collect vital items to send over to Ukraine following the devastating news over the past couple of weeks.
Stacey Kirkby, Registered Manager, said: “Here at Broom Lodge, my staff team, service users and family members of my service users have raised money and given donations to enable us to buy essential items, such as baby products and toiletries, which people have been deprived of because of the war.
“They have also written letters and then worked together to have these translated into Ukrainian.
“They’ve attached these to the goods so hopefully the people of Ukraine can read them and know they are all in our thoughts.”
One of the staff members has a friend in Ukraine who is helping out the community, so they have first-hand experience of the devastation and the need for these essential items.
They have reached out to their friends at home to request donations of the items people need the most.
Stacey added: “I am proud of my team and our service users who have shown great compassion, hope and love in a time it is needed.
“The staff have worked hard to enable our service users to understand the devastation in a sensitive way, which in turn has allowed them to give to others.
“I am incredibly proud of my team, and we promise to continue to help wherever we can.”
