Shildon Town Council has announced that The Giant Sandpit will open to the public on Thursday 3 August from 11.30am.
“Bring along your buckets and spades for fun filled days at the beach,” said a spokesperson. “We will also have a limited number of buckets and spades free to use on the day. After the official opening, regular opening times will be on Monday to Thursday from 9am until 3.30pm, Fridays from 9am until 3pm, Saturdays from 10am until 3pm and closed on Sundays.
“The sandpit has been made possible with the funding support from county councillors Shirley Quinn, Samantha Townsend and Matt Johnson through their Bishop Auckland & Shildon neighbourhood budgets. Kind donations of equipment and funds to support the grand opening have been donated by The Original Factory Shop in Shildon, Shildon Alive, PPG Industries and from the former Mayor, Cllr Hannah Hanratty.”
