West Auckland Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed their home show recently, attended by three-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Robin Reid and former WBA (Super) super-middleweight title holder, George Groves.
Gym founder, Stephen Nicholson said: “It was a fantastic show and everything went exactly to plan.
“There were three skills bouts and 13 competitive bouts with ten wins from local junior boxers aged from ten years old up to our most senior boxer aged 36.
“We were delighted to hear George Groves describe the event as the ‘best amateur boxing show in Britain’.
“Our best junior boxer was Thomas ‘2Quick’ Nicholson, who was presented with a belt and West Auckland Golden Gloves by Robin Reed.
“Our best senior was Charlie ‘The Hammer’ Cranston, who received his belt and gloves from George Groves.”
The boxers were also presented with gold medals, engraved to commemorate what was the club’s 5th anniversary show.
