Bishop Auckland FC kicked off their season on Saturday, August 8th, with a league fixture away to Billingham Town.
The Bishops missed some chances early on in the game, before Billingham grabbed goals either side of half-time to make it 2-0.
A late strike from Wayne Gredziak proved to be only a consolation goal.
On Tuesday, August 11th, the Bishops played a second away league fixture, at Esh Winning. Once again, Bishop fell behind to the home side before Gredziak continued his fine form, grabbing an equaliser soon after.
As the game wore on, both sides had chances to win it; Esh Winning had a goal disallowed for offside, and Wayne Gredziak had a penalty saved before the referee blew the whistle with the final score, 1-1.
The team played in the FA Cup on Saturday, August 15th. Bishop Auckland were again on the road, this time they faced the long journey down to Hall Road Rangers, who are based on the outskirts of Hull.
Bishop fell behind to an early goal, but they hit back with three goals before the halftime whistle; the equaliser came from Stephen Salvin. Amar Purewal grabbed the other two goals.
Chris Lawson conceded a penalty to Hall Road Rangers, but Peter Jeffries, the Bishops ‘keeper, was equal to the spotkick and he made a fantastic save.
Within minutes of the penalty save, Arjun Purewal completed his hat-trick. Mark Henson added a fifth goal before Adam Strong scored Bishop’s sixth and Hall Road Rangers scored a late consolation goal.
Bishop has been rewarded for their FA Cup victory with a trip to Tyneside, to take on Hebburn Town on Saturday, August 28th.
