Bishop Auckland and Coundon partnership set to bloom

A project to bring colour to Bishop Auckland and Coundon is set to go ahead after a meeting at the Park Head Hotel on Monday 9th January heard from similar projects in Northumbria and Sedgefield.

Cllr Joy Allen said: “Our project is called Bishop with Coundon in Bloom and really is gathering support both from the business sector and the local community.

“The presentations really helped set the tone and demonstrated the many advantages of getting involved as well as dispelling the myth that you have to have green fingers to get involved.

“There are many roles that can be undertaken from fund raising, media and communications to litter picks. I think we have got off to a really positive start and I hope we make many new friends along the way.

“Anyone can get involved by contacting Cllr Joy Allen on 03000 268672 or via email joy.allen@durham.gov.uk.”

Cllr Sam Zair said: “A Bishop In Bloom competition would be a good idea for the town so let’s hope this can be achieved with the help of various groups and volunteers in the town.

“The triple planters in the market place which I funded with my AAP budget last year certainly made an impact so let’s hope for bigger things to come.”
