Local businessman, Darryl Meadows is set for the fight of his life as he faces the task of raising funds for Cancer Research UK – by taking on his first boxing match.
On his JustGiving page, Darryl explains: “I have signed up to do the White Collar Boxing on Saturday 15th April at Rainton Arena. I want to raise £1,000 to help cancer research.”
Darryl, who has recently become a dad, added: “I believe cancer is close to getting cracked.
“A few good friends have lost people to cancer and now I’m a new father I don’t want future generations to suffer.
“I wanted do to something to raise money for cancer research and being a sports person, I always fancied boxing since I was young.
“Ultra White Collar Boxing gives people the opportunity to develop the skills to box whilst raising money for a good cause.’’
White Collar Boxing originated in New York in 1988 when a doctor and a lawyer trained for a few weeks before boxing each other at a black tie event.
Ultra White Collar Boxing is the most established organisation in the UK, running hundreds of events since 2009 and raising money for charity.
The organisation is one of Cancer Research UK’s biggest fundraisers in the UK, raising over £2 million in 2015.
