A ‘Safe Shop Bear Hunt’, officially launched recently at Tindale/St Helen Auckland Retail Park is taking place in Bishop Auckland throughout December.
The bear hunt, which has previously run in Durham City, is an initiative designed to spread some important safety messages to help keep people safe during the busy Christmas shopping period.
Teddy bears along with their accompanying safety message will be positioned in windows of stores in the retail park.
Shoppers, particularly their children, are encouraged to pick up an entry form either from the retail park this Saturday, or direct from police after that, then locate as many of the teddies as possible and make a note of where they are. Each bear will represent an important safety message.
The competition runs until January 2nd, after which a winning entry will be drawn. The winner will received a £25 gift voucher.
PC Kimberley Marshall from the neighbourhood policing team in Bishop Auckland said: “The aim of the game is for shoppers and their little helpers to locate all the teddy bears and make a note of where they found them on our ‘Bishop safe bear hunt’ entry forms.
“Every time they find one they will be reminded of the safety message that particular bear is representing.
“We think it’s a fun way to help us spread some key safety messages to all the family.
“It’s free to enter and those who find all the bears will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win a £25 gift voucher.
“We hope that as many people as possibly get involved.”
