The evening of Monday, 21 November will see an unusual performance of Victorian street and working folk songs at Shildon Railway Institute.
Jennifer Reid is a researcher, presenter, educator, performer and also expert in working people’s songs from the Industrial Revolution era. Jennifer is embarking on a new research project to try and uncover some lesser known, or long forgotten early railway songs with links to Shildon and the surrounding area.
The purpose of her friendly and informal visit is to introduce herself to people from the area and explain the project to anyone interested in her research, with details of how people can get involved if they wish.
Jennifer will be drawing upon her wide repertoire of songs from the Industrial Revolution covering not only the railways but also weaving, mining and day to day life, which will be sung acapella in their original dialect.
