Ferryhill Primary Ambassador’s for Community Change, and Ferryhill School Leaders officially launched their Commissioner’s Challenge last week, with Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen.
The Ambassadors have been working in partnership with Commissioner Allen on an exciting challenge for all Year 5 pupils in Ferryhill and West Cornforth, which will run over the next few months.
Using information from their Crime Survey, the Ambassadors have designed a project where pupils can earn a bronze, silver and gold shield by carrying out simple but effective crime prevention tasks which will help keep their family, friends and neighbours safe, their streets safe and themselves safe.
This means over 140 homes will be made safer and more resilient to crime. At the launch, the Ambassadors talked to the media about how and why they developed their project.
Glenys from Approach Too said: “We are blown away by how well the children and young people have done with this project, which has been a year in the making. They have shared the results of their work with people who can help them make positive changes, such as Paul Howell MP, town councillors, 4 Together AAP, the police and of course Commissioner Allen. They have also taken the challenge one step further by creating their own Crime Prevention Project which will help keep family, friends and neighbours safe.”
The Ambassadors will keep everyone updated with their progress and share their tips and tasks as they go along.
