Plans for a major expansion of a Chilton housing estate have been submitted, writes Local Democracy Reporter, Bill Edgar.
Avant Homes has lodged a proposal for 468 new homes in Chilton as part of the latest phase of its multi-million pound development in the town.
A mix of two-bedroom bungalows as well as one, two, three, four and five-bedroom houses could be built by the housebuilder the future phases of the development on land to the north of the A689.
Several properties will be marketed to prospective first-time buyers and young families to have access to affordable entry-level housing across the region.
Avant Homes said the increased number of homes would help meet the strong demand for new homes.
Alex Franklin, the firm’s associate director, said: “This development will contribute to meeting an identified housing shortfall within County Durham and provide much-needed homes where local people can move to build new communities.
“We are working closely with the planning authority and the developers to secure planning approval for the next phase of this exciting development.
“It will also support job creation, the local supply chain and deliver a development that everyone can be proud of and create new homes. This is a positive step for the area and we now look forward to seeing development come to fruition.”
This latest phase will generate an estimated £13 million expenditure increase in local shops in the coming years, according to North East planning specialist Hedley Planning, which is overseeing the hybrid planning submission.
