A local woman is set to walk over a hundred miles in memory of her father and the charity which cared for him.
Vicky Whitfield, from Newton Aycliffe, will set off from Shildon’s Sunnydale Leisure Centre on Saturday 1st March at 8am, before embarking on a 5 day trek to Hull, via Whitby.
Vicky’s father, Michael Allinson (known as Tosh) sadly passed away last year aged 58 after battling Parkinson’s disease for 15 years. Tosh was a resident of Shildon’s Holly Lodge, where Vicky works as a care assistant and her husband is empoyed as a handyman. She said, “We are walking to The Deep in Hull. There’s a sea life centre there that I used to go to with Dad. “He was originally from Shildon and then we all moved to Hull, before moving back up to the North East.”
Vicky’s husband Philip will be undertaking the 118 mile walk along with his wife, as will family members Tasha Jones and Clare Smith. The group will sleep outdoors whilst completing the trek.
Mrs Whitfield went on to say, “We have been preparing for weeks, going to boot camp classes and doing lots of walking. “We’ve just recently done a 14 mile walk. “I’m really excited but I know I’m going to miss my kids as I’ll be away from them for a few days.”
