Bishop Auckland’s weekly market is being relaunched with the aim of providing regular town centre retail opportunities to local independent businesses.
From 27th April, Durham Markets Company will be operating the weekly Thursday market, open from 9am to 4pm, and are inviting regional independent retailers to join them.
Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets Company, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with the County Council to reinvigorate Bishop Auckland market.
“We’re keen to attract new traders to the market, making sure we’ve an impressive variety of stalls, manned by people who are passionate and knowledgeable about what they’re selling.
“As well as attracting traders, we want to encourage those living and working in and around Bishop Auckland to support their local independent businesses by visiting this weekly market.
“After all, every penny they spend with these businesses, will be pumped back into the local economy, and that’s good for all of us.”
A campaigner for the weekly market said: “Bishop is an historic market with a very proud history. Local residents and local traders want to see our local market back on the map.
“We are delighted to have attracted the support of Durham Markets Company who will now operate the Bishop Auckland Market.
“Over recent years Bishop Auckland has earned an enviable reputation for attracting thousands of visitors to the annual food festival so the timing of the relaunch is perfect, coming just weeks after the food festival.
“With all the ongoing developments around the town centre in Bishop Auckland, this is the right time and the right company to revitalise our market”.
Traders interested in trading at the market from April 27th should email colin@durhammarkets.co.uk for an application form or call 0191 3846153.
