Ghostbusters called in to Merry Monk

Paranormal investigators are claiming to have captured evidence of spooky goings on at Bishop Auckland’s Merry Monk pub in the town’s Market Place.

“A lot of unexplained things happen here,” said pub landlord, Christian Burns, who agreed to an investigation by Spectre Detectors, led by Elaine Kelly, after being given a log book which documented apparently paranormal activity in the pub, including plunging temperatures, objects flying around and sightings of a ghostly monk.

“We got there at about 6pm to set up our night vision cctv cameras, and other recording devices,” said Mrs Kelly. “As we were setting up in the cellar downstairs, one of the psychic mediums in the group heard a man say “help”.

“Another decided to take some photos of the cellar, only to find that she had caught what looked like a man of the cloth in the photo.”

Voices, sightings, plummeting temperatures, flying objects and the feeling of being watched were all detected throughout the evening by the group of ghostbusters.

“Over the course of the night we decided to split the group into three: one group went into the cellar, one went into the alleyway (which was the original entrance to the building) and one stayed in the bar, said Elaine.

“In the cellar we did various spirit box sessions, and got some great responses to questions.

“We all had various personal experiences, including temperature fluctuations, feelings, we heard tap responses, and unusual drafts. We heard various sounds including what can only be described as someone standing on a plastic bottle only we couldn’t find anything on the floor.

“In the alleyway, there were sounds of movement which we also caught on handycam, light anomalies, and a whining sound of a lady.

“It was a fantastic investigation, which we conducted over five hours and we had been shown some amazing evidence.

“The footage from the investigation is available to view on our youtube channel and facebook page.

“We are also returning to do another investigation in June, so that the general public can experience an investigation there too.

“Chris is going to clear the alleyway so that we can have full access and is looking to make the entrance to a tunnel in the cellar larger.

“It’s a fantastic building, steeped in history and we cant wait to return. Maybe the monks will break their vow of silence!”
