Chilton Care Home manager, Maxine Smith, has set up a Justgiving page to help raise the funds needed to add a roof to one of the home’s outdoor seating areas, creating a gazebo.
And her efforts have been given a boost by four local lads who have pledged to raise awareness and donate the funds raised during their annual charity walk to the cause.
Tony Wilson, Micheal Kidd, Sean Smith and Trevor Marshall, who are all Chilton lads and who have a lot of links with the care home, overheard the staff’s idea, and immediately agreed to use this year’s annual walk to help.
The lads, who have completed walks including the Coast to Coast, Hadrian’s Wall and West Highland Way in recent years, are aiming to walk the 106 miles from Seaham to Berwick.
Maxine said: “We are looking to add a roof to one of the outdoor seating areas to allow all the residents another private area to relax with friends and family in a comfortable outdoor environment.
“We are absolutely thrilled that the lads have chosen to help us, and our residents will venture outside more with the protection of a roof on the patio area.
“Our residents and families both present and future will get to enjoy the new area, and we wish them all the very best on their walk.
“We have set up a JustGiving page if anyone wishes to support the lads on their walk, they will be over the moon.”
The walk will commence on Sunday 27th April from Seaham and the lads will complete daily updates and pictures of their journey.
