Another successful Shildon litter pick

Several new volunteers joined in, collecting fourteen bags of litter in just one hour.

A total of fourteen bags of rubbish were collected in Shildon by a team of volunteers on Sunday 23 March.

Following the path to Locomotion, the tidying volunteers spent just one hour of their time to collect discarded rubbish in a bid to bring some civic pride back to Shildon.

The crew saw a Sunday morning with many new residents joining the ranks, keen to do their bit for the town, thanks to the article in a recent issue of the Crier.

John Wilson, who set up Litter Free Shildon, was delighted with the response.

“I got quite emotional, I have to admit, on Sunday, seeing the team collecting so much litter and seeing everything so lovely and tidy afterwards,” he said.

“It was a fantastic turn out and it goes to show that many hands make light work, as we filled fourteen bags in just one hour.”

If you can spare an hour of your time, the next litter pick will be on Sunday 6 April, starting at 10am in the car park opposite Shildon Stores in Redworth Road. Families are welcome and all equipment is provided.
