Some members of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club took a trip to Staffordshire on Saturday, 13 September, to visit the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.
For many of the veterans, it was their visit to see their respective regimental memorials and memorials to conflicts they had served in.
Speaking about the visit, British Army veteran David Middleton said: “Many thanks to Pete Molloy for organising a very successful trip.
“The vastness of the grounds certainly exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend visiting as there is so much to see.
“We visited a large number of monuments to those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice, whilst serving our country, some personally known to me.
“This visit to the Arboretum provided me with the opportunity to reflect on my own military experiences together with the others in our group and it was both an emotional and moving experience for everyone.”
The veterans finished their visit with a get together in the evening, where they toasted those who had went before them.
The next meeting of the Spennymoor Veterans Breakfast Club will take place in Wetherspoons on Saturday, 11 October at 11am.
