Veterans’ Hub latest update

The Veterans’ Hub of Shildon and surrounding areas hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year and 2024 brings the wishes that everyone wants, writes Glenn Gibbons.

After a busy November and December, when the Veterans’ Hub were hosted in the Locomotion Museum and then organised a social drink on the evening instead of the normal meeting time in December, it’s back to the usual time and place for the get together at the Civic Hall this month.

Flyers about the Hub have been circulated to some Regimental and Corp associations and hopefully we will get a visit from some of their members this month.

If anyone would like to forward, or have contacts of local military associations, please let Shildon Town Council know where they can send the relevant information.

It is hoped at February’s get together that we will have a guest speaker who will talk about the North East War Memorial project and the recent additional name to be placed on Shildon’s Cenotaph outside St John’s Church.

Let’s continue to support and attend this group and encourage new people to come along.

We wish to extend our continued thanks to Shildon Town Council and Civic Hall staff for support and use of their buildings, Shildon Alive for their continued donations of food, and those veterans who come to relax, have a good chat and crack a few jokes.
