We are having an evening Christmas (drinks) get together, writes Glenn Gibson on behalf of the Shildon Veterans Hub.
Where may you ask? At 7pm at the Civic Hall on Wednesday 20th December.
The veterans decided a couple months ago to move the regular monthly get together in December from its normal time through the day to the evening for this month only.
They hope to encourage those veterans who are unable to attend through the day to pop in for the evening for drinks and banter.
With Christmas fast approaching, the evening will be a bit of relief from the sense of loneliness around the festive period and provide a warm space environment during the cold nights.
The veterans will meet up in the lounge area in the Civic and relax for the evening, but unfortunately there will be no food available as there normally is, unless you want to buy from the establishment itself.
Every veteran with their families is invited to come along and join in and be part of this group.
On the evening there will be a raffle for a small food hamper with all proceeds going to Shildon Alive who have supported the Veterans Hub with free food since it started back in April 2023 and who do a fantastic service within the Shildon Community and surrounding areas.
The feedback from the November Hub meeting, which was held at the Locomotion Museum, has been very positive with new veterans attending.
Many thanks must go to the staff of the Locomotion Museum for their help and support and looking after the veterans on the day.
Remembrance Day, as usual, was well attended by both veterans and the public for the service and the group is hoping more in the future will take part in the parades where they can take a salute after the service.
The regular members of the Veterans Hub are very keen to promote this group and would like to see more from all services join them for what is turning out to be a great social gathering.
So come along and be part of this fantastic Hub and enjoy the company of other veterans in a warm environment.
Be part of the Shildon Veterans banter where you can laugh, joke, talk about where you were stationed and what things you did, good or bad, while in service.
But mostly be part of a friendly caring group of veterans in the town and surrounding area.

January 17th, February 21st and March 20th – all at the Civic Hall from 11am to 2pm.
