Top cyclists will be taking on a challenging town centre circuit when Velo29 makes a return to Bishop Auckland.
The Velo29 event will take place on Wednesday 12th August, with the youth race starting at 6.45pm and the senior race beginning at 8pm.
It’s free to attend and people are encouraged to go along to spectate and cheer the riders on.
The senior race was held for the first time in Bishop Auckland last summer and this year’s line-up will include last year’s winner Harry Tanfield.
Competitors will race around the 1km circuit, which has been designed for exciting racing and maximum spectating opportunities.
2015 is again a 1 hour race, the riders will touch 60 km/h as they rush towards the Town Centre on the wide slightly downhill section of North Bondgate. They will pass the “S” bend section in front of the Town Hall without touching the brakes then lose speed for the tight right switch back and sprint through the finish line.
After passing the redeveloped market square they will blast down the narrow Fore Bondgate. From a riders perspective this will be a very challenging section, for spectators. The narrow barriered street will make for some amazing viewing and a chance to get super close to the riders.
As well as the main Velo29 event there will be other entertainment, including a performance from BMX champion and Guinness World Record holder Matti Hemmings.
