Town Clerk to retire

The Town Clerk of Shildon, Mick Waterson, will be retiring from his post on 1st February and will be replaced by the current Deputy Town Clerk, Mrs Tracey Bellas from that date.

He will however continue to work for the Town Council one day per week on a three year fixed term contract as Finance and Policy Officer, to provide specialist support and advice to the Council and the new Town Clerk.

The post of Deputy Town Clerk will be removed from the establishment and replaced with a new post of Community Development and Support Officer.

Mick, who has been Town Clerk since May 2004 said, “I have enjoyed every moment as Town Clerk and can honestly say after 40 years of service in local government my time spent at Shildon has been the most rewarding in my career. I would like to thank everyone who has worked with me over the last 10 years for their support and encouragement, including all of the elected members and the staff of the Town Council, and perhaps more importantly the people of Shildon themselves.”

Mick attended his last meeting of the Town Council as Town Clerk on Monday 19th January at which the precept for 2015/16 was set in the sum of £500,650.

This precept requires an increase in the Town Council’s portion of the Band D Council Tax of 1.99% which equates to £4.88 per annum or 9.4p per week.

For Band A properties the equivalent increase is £3.25 per annum or 6.25p per week.
