On a Saturday night in early December, Spennymoor Town and Youth Bands joined forces in Spennymoor Town Hall to present a Christmas Concert in aid of the Town Mayors Charity Appeal.
At the packed event, ‘most improved’ player awards were presented to Joseph Robinson from the Youth Band and Sally Davison from the Town Band.
The bandsperson of the year, selected by band members, went to the Town Band’s President, Hugh Stephenson.
Hugh told Spennymoor News: “We are delighted that the concert raised £1,300 for the Town Mayor’s charities, the beneficiaries of which are Spennymoor Learning Library and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
“We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who attended and donated.
“The youth band are coming on leaps and bounds and a special mention must go to Fiona Casewell, musical director of both bands, for her hard work in preparing the bands for the concert.”
Spennymoor Town Mayor, Councillor Derek Taylor, said: “I really appreciate the bands staging this concert in aid of my charities.
“I have supported the band for many years and think this may be the best concert I have attended.”
He added: “I’m really proud of how the Youth Band is developing.”
