Year 3 students at Timothy Hackworth Primary School decided to give back this Christmas by taking part in a donation drive.
Rather than receive a chocolate from an advent calendar each day, the classes decided on a twist to Advent this year and each bring a tin of food in on their allocated day to donate instead.
At the end of this reverse calendar the two classes will have 24 tins each to donate to Shildon Alive food bank.
Headteacher at Timothy Hackworth, Mrs Bolton, commended her students, saying: “During winter and Christmas and with a cost of living crisis, it’s so lovely that our students are thinking of others at this time.”
Paula Nelson from Shildon Alive contacted the Crier as she thought it was was such a lovely gesture from the school: “I was so impressed how the children all got behind this donation,” she said. “It shows how these students are becoming responsible at such a young age by giving to others in need during Christmas.”
