Staff at The Original Factory Shop in Shildon were delighted last week to support two charities helping residents of Shildon and the wider community.
After selling donated books and hosting a tombola, they were able to donate a cheque totalling £535 to Shildon Salvation Army this year to help with their food bank.
In addition they were able to donate three trolleys packed high of toys that were donated to the Aycliffe Bike and Turbinia Toy Run.
Manager Susan Simpson told the Shildon Town Crier: “We are so thankful to our generous customers this year who have donated books toys and money again throughout the year to be able to support the Salvation Army and their Toy Appeal.
“It’s wonderful to be a part of such that a fantastic community in Shildon.”
Aycliffe Bike and Turbinia Toy Run displayed their haul of toys on their social media where Gary Soakells’ emotional broadcast was heard in his commentary when he thanked everyone who had donated this year.
Gary went on to describe how this year they have had such a good response that they had run out of space to display all the toys as it has been the best year ever for the collection.
He ended the video with the comment: “Every toy here is going to make a child happy at Christmas, kids laughing and smiling instead of tears and you should all be proud of yourselves.”
