Last weekend, players from the Shildon based Durham Tigers RL attended the Rugby League World Cup final at Old Trafford, where they watched Australia beat New Zealand 34-2.
Club Secretary, Phil Selby said, “It is very important that young players from places like Shildon get the chance to see world class games such as the world cup final. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of these kids and it inspires them to improve their game and have more interest in rugby.”
Under 12s Coach Paul Grey said, “It was incredible, I always knew that Australia would win! I definitely saw that it inspired me and some of the younger kids especially, I think that we can bring a lot of what we saw back to Shildon and I hope that the Tigers have a better season as a result.”
