Third place for Water Polo U14s

Sedgefield Water Polo U14s achieved third place at the Manchester Winter Festival in January.

Sedgefield Water Polo Club have congratulated their U14 boys team, who competed in the Manchester Winter Festival on Saturday 13th January and came away in a very well deserved third place.

Special mentions were given to Dylan, from Shildon, for his debut tournament in goal, where he pulled off some fantastic saves against tough opposition, and to Thomas, who was commended by one of the referees for his unselfishness in the pool and willingness to pass to younger members to allow them to score.

“Thank you to all our coaches and parents who made the drive over to Manchester to give children some fantastic match experience against teams from across the North,” said a spokesperson. “The smiles on the children’s faces at the end of the day made the early start very worthwhile – and shows how fun and exciting water polo is when in a competitive environment.”

Team manager, Imelda Forrest, spoke about how amazing the young team were, both in and out of the water, explaining that “team sport produces so much more than a score on a board; it produces respect for each other, friendship, kindness, resilience and strength, along with many more positives.”

In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, Sedgefield Water Polo Club now offers a beginner session at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport.

All sessions need to be booked in advance on the club app, so check their website for further information and joining instructions.
