Music legend Alfred ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis was at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Monday 5th July delivering a special two-hour workshop to young County Durham musicians as part of BRASS: Durham International
Festival. The saxophone player is recognised as being the ‘inventor of Funk music’ – his performances with the Godfather of Soul ‘James Brown’ and Funkadelic group ‘Parliament’ are etched into music folklore.
Florida-born Pee Wee Ellis worked with 25 young musicians, aged between 15 and 19 years-old, from the Durham County Youth Big Band – passing on some of his immense knowledge of the music world.
The creative culmination saw the young people join Pee Wee Ellis on stage at Bishop Auckland Town Hall during a special evening concert – representing the Festival’s commitment of generating unique experiences to enable the musicians of the future to progress and prosper.
