The Auckland Project has appointed Stephen Reed as its new Director of Marketing and Communications, strengthening the organisations senior leadership team as it continues to grow its cultural and heritage profile.
Stephen has more than two decades of experience in international advertising agencies as a planning director, strategically developing brands and campaigns as diverse as the NHS, Blacks Outdoor and Marston’s. As a consultant for the past 10 years, he has steered the marketing led growth of companies and organisations across the commercial, public and third sectors.
His background also includes working with major cultural and heritage institutions, including The Glasshouse in Gateshead and Newcastle’s Discovery Museum, giving him a strong understanding of how cultural organisations connect place, people and storytelling.
In his new role, Stephen will lead marketing and communications across The Auckland Project’s portfolio – which includes world-class art galleries, award-winning Park Head Hotel and heritage cottages, Auckland Palace and 200 acres of gardens and parkland – supporting its mission to regenerate Bishop Auckland as a major cultural destination, celebrating, sharing and preserving the town’s rich history while increasing engagement with local, regional and national audiences.
Stephen said: “The Auckland Project is a unique and ambitious organisation with a powerful story to tell. I’m excited to be joining the team to act as a catalyst – helping sharpen our voice, extend our reach and ensure our work resonates locally, regionally and nationally – while also helping build on the strong foundations already in place, ensuring our work reaches and resonates with as many people as possible.”
Jane Ruffer, CEO at The Auckland Project, said: “Stephen brings exceptional depth of experience in strategic marketing and communications, alongside a strong understanding of how organisations connect meaningfully with their audiences. As The Auckland Project continues to evolve, his leadership will be invaluable in strengthening our profile and ensuring our story is told with clarity, ambition and impact.”
