A 14-year-old girl who received life-threatening injuries after an incident on 22 April at Shildon Railway Station, has sadly passed away, her family has announced.
British Transport Police were called to the scene at 8am, writes volunteer community journalist, Carla Krenzke, followed by the arrival of the North East Ambulance Service including a helicopter.
Due to her immediate life-threatening injuries, the girl was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
But after fighting for more than a week, she sadly lost her battle last Saturday, 2 May.
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Specially trained officers are supporting her family while Greenfield Academy, the school the teenager attended, is providing support for the wider school community.
The family has asked for privacy in these difficult times but expressed gratitude to all those who reached out to them.
