Team Solan launch regular coffee mornings

Mayor Dean Ranyard attended the Team Solan coffee morning.

On July 26, Team Solan launched their Tuesday coffee mornings. It was a fantastic start to the events with almost 60 people attending. Many met old and new friends and stayed all morning, writes Ian Machin of the Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust.

Others called just to see Mark, with two signing up to become new Warriors, and a new Warrior travelled from Catterick to attend. A few enquired about volunteering, and others asked how they could help the charity. Some just wanted to be supportive. Many thanks to all who attended.

The coffee mornings will continue every Tuesday morning from 10am until 2pm, in The Hub, behind the charity boutique. Watch out for the new signs.

Spennymoor Town Mayor Cllr Dean Ranyard and his partner Cllr Becky Calder popped in for cuppa and a chat and noted that one of his chosen charities, ManHealth, now hold regular meeting in The Hub for both current and new service users every Monday from 6pm to 8pm. The Hub is already being used by other organisations, and is available for hire by community groups and organisations for events.

Team Solan coffee mornings are open for everyone to enjoy refreshments in a warm, friendly, safe, social environment. Access to the refurbished Hub is via the rear entrance facing the large free car park, or through the boutique, where the double doors into the Hub will be open to shoppers.

The purpose of this event, in addition to the social activity afforded by coffee mornings to meet and chat, is to continue to raise awareness of the services and support that Team Solan can provide to anyone dealing with a cancer diagnosis or a cancer related bereavement. Anyone can attend, and if they need help or just want to better understand what the charity does, then please come along for a chat.

We recognise that everyone coping with a cancer diagnosis or a bereavement has practical needs that are bespoke to them and we aim to provide timely help, practical, and emotional support and advice to those in need. This can range from transport to attend a hospital or doctor appointment, mobility equipment in the home, to counselling, wellbeing support and social or entertainment activities in our support hub.

We are helping more families each year and have plans to extend the support groups for our Warriors, but we need feedback to identify what is needed. As the charity continues to grow and new services are developed, we will be constantly looking at ways to increase awareness across the North East in order for us to support many more families.

If you have any hub enquiries or are interested in supporting the charity, please contact us by email at info@teamsolan.org.uk.
