Shildon AFC Supporters Club were joined by several local community groups, who were guests of honour at the football club’s recent league match against Ashington.
The event proved to be a double celebration as Shildon were presented with the League Championship trophy while each group received a cheque from the latest round of grants distributed through the Supporters Club’s Lottery fund.
Karen Hill of Waverley Terrace Allotments said: “We cannot thank Shildon Supporters Club enough for their generous donation to the Waverly Terrace Allotment Leek Club.
“The money will make a big difference to the way we can help young and old growers.”
The Supporters Club lottery fund has been running for the past three years and has helped dozens of local groups with small grants of up to £200.
As well as the Allotments Leek Club, the fund assisted the newly formed Royal British Legion Shildon Branch which will use the money to assist with its setup costs.
Bishop FM also received funds which they will put towards the cost of new equipment for the local community radio station; Ian Meachem accepted a cheque on behlaf of Shildon Community Bus while two of Shildon AFC Development Centre’s teams received funds to help them with the costs of attending a summer football tournament.
All local groups are eligible to apply for funds, up to a maximum of £200 in any one year.

Funds are distributed on average three times a year.
