Shildon’s young sprinters made progress towards the NE Championships.
The Open Medal Meeting took place at Gateshead on 24th April where Kayleigh Readman (15.12 seconds) narrowly beat her colleague Cody Hall (15.15 seconds) in the U13 Girls 100m.
Cody turned the tables in the 200m finishing in 30.76 seconds whilst Kayleigh came home in 31.57 seconds. Charlie Dixon was the third member of the team to compete in the U15 boys 200m finishing in 28.27 seconds.
On 3rd May, Tia Hirst competed in the U11 Girls 75m at the NYSD event at Middlesbrough winning in 12.50 seconds and went on to jump 2.86 in the Long Jump.
Cody Hall finished 3rd in her U13 Girls 100m heat in 15.10 seconds and jumped 3.70m to finish 5th in the Long Jump.
Rachel Bennett, Kyle Walton and Charley Dixon all competed in their District Schools events and qualified as champions to go forward to the County Schools next month.
The youngsters were competing again at the Cyril Elliott Open Meeting at Middlesbrough on 8th May where Charlie Dixon finished 3rd in the U15 Boys 300m in 43.33 seconds.
Charlie also competed in the 200m finishing in 28.63 seconds.
In the U13 Girls 100m, Cody Hall won her heat in 15.06 seconds with Kayleigh Readman finishing 2nd in the same heat in 15.61 seconds.
The girls later competed in 150m race finishing in 23.08 seconds (Cody) and 24.32 seconds (Kayleigh).
Kayleigh also competed in the Long Jump finishing 4th with a best jump of 3.54m.
Elle Liddell competed in the U15 girls shot and finished 2nd throwing 8.36m.
In the U17W Shot Lizzie Cramb threw 9.98m to finish 2nd.
On the same day Rachel Bennett gained valuable experience as she travelled to London to take part in the Newham Open Meeting.
Running against older and more experienced athletes, Rachel returned a time of 12.48 seconds for 100m graded race and went on to set a new PB and smash the club record for 200m an astonishing 25.39 seconds placing her 3rd in the UK rankings.
