Success has certainly been catching for Shildon athletes this November.
Cameron Boyek raided the Scottish 4k championships on the 10th, when he claimed victory in the junior men’s race. Cameron then went on to take the Norman woodcock memorial road race on the 23rd November.
Another member who is no stranger to success, European u23 medalist Kate Avery has taken the college xc circuit in America by storm, where she represents Iona College. Kate combined victories at the Maac Championships and Iona Meet of Champions, together with an excellent 3rd place at the NCAA div1 Championships at Terre Haute on 23rd November. Next up Kate will be hoping to gain International honours representing Great Britain (pending selection) at the European XC championships.
Closer to home, the latest NE Harrier league XC took place at Jarrow on the 24th, and a small contingent from Shildon’s middle distance group came up with some excellent results.
Star billing went to Lizzie Cramb in the u15 girl’s race. Lizzie was running from the fast pack and cut through large parts of the field to finish in 10th place, recording the 6th fastest time of the day.
In the combined u20 / u17 women’s race, Elizabeth Wood started from the fast pack and completed the course in 17.48s, earning her 30th place.
Next up was the u11s mixed race and Chloe Fairclough maintained her good early season form. Chloe ran a solid race to finish 35th overall and 12th girl in 5 minutes. Following Chloe home, Thomas Raith also completed in 5 minutes, Adam Hanby in 5m 32s, Thomas Boynton in 6m 55s and Callum Darby in 6m 59s.
Shildon’s sprinters also recorded some excellent results during the Gateshead indoor standards meeting on the 21st. U13 girls Rachel Bennett and Maddie Wells raced to new 60m PBs in 8.56s and 8.63s respectively. Times which place them 2nd and 3rd in the early season U.K rankings for their age group. U15g Jade hepple was also on the pb trail in 60m and 60m Hurdles at this meet.
