Shildon Railway Cricket Club’s Annual General Meeting took place last week, and the well-attended meeting elected a new committee to lead the club into 2014 and the new season ahead.
Re-elected chairman, John Brennan, thanked all who had helped the club over the course of the previous year, making special mention of the B.R. Club, all sponsors, the Town Council and supporters.
He urged members to take a greater role in the running of the club, in particular by assisting junior coaches John Young and Malcolm Dover in raising the profile of the Junior Section and encouraging more youngsters to join the club, with a view to adding Under 11s and Under 18s teams to the current Under 15s and Under 13s.
“Our Juniors are the future of this club, our life blood and we need to look to them,” said the chairman.
Other officials elected included: (President & Vice Chairman) Jim Robinson, (Secretary) Paul Upton, (Assistant Secretary) Norman Nash, (Treasurer) Robert Nevison, (Child Welfare Officer) Greg Upton.
Jim Morland, Michael Lumley, John Young and Chris Young were also elected to the committee.
Mr. Ken Stainthorpe, who played for the club in the 50s and 60s and who has been a generous supporter of the Railwaymen, was honoured with a lifetime vice-presidency, joining Mr. Peter Dargue and Mr. Fred Brownless in holding this distinction.
