Students and staff at King James I Academy in Bishop Auckland united recently in support of the BBC’s Children in Need fundraising event to raise £804.84.
Funds were raised in three ways: firstly, both students and staff paid £1 to dress casually for non-uniform day, which ensured the fundraising total got off to a great start.
At break and lunchtime, student support workers, assisted by students, organised a cake sale with a selection of cupcakes, cookies and doughnuts donated by staff, and all items quickly sold out.
And there was also a fun activity to cover a cut-out of Pudsey Bear with coins. This proved so popular it had to be cleared and restarted three times.
Students’ Support Worker, Mrs Bainbridge, who organised the event said: “We would like to thank everyone for their generosity, especially in the current economic climate.
“We know that many people are experiencing difficult times, so this is an amazing achievement,” she said, adding, “Children in Need is a very worthy cause and we are proud to have been able to contribute to the national total.”
