St Mary’s Under 12s took on Washington Lambton Lions in the prestigious County Cup Final on Friday 10th May at Durham FA Headquarters in Chester-le-Street, but there was heartache for the Two Blues when, after a hard fought match, Washington scored the winner with a breakaway goal in the last minute.
The sides went in level at half-time, but Washington took the lead in the second half, when a St Mary’s free kick deep in opposition territory deflected to a Washington player and caught St Mary’s upfield.
The boys got a deserved equaliser from a Stout penalty with just 15 minutes to go.
With both sides pressing for a winner, it was Washington who broke St Mary’s hearts.
Elsewhere, St Mary’s Under 11 Kings reached the Blackpool final for the third year running, where they swept aside Whitechapel, scoring seven goals.

Also in Blackpool, the Under 12s beat Poulton Town 4-0 in their final.
In other results, the U8 Kings, the U8 Aces and the U14 Kings all enjoyed a successful Skegness ESF Festival of Football, while in the league, the U11 Aces were held to a 3-3 draw withMarton. The U13s won 5-1 over Redcar while The U14 Aces drew 1-1 with Billingham.
