1st Ferryhill Scouts spent the evening at Denehurst Nursing Home last Friday, entertaining the residents with stories and songs from Wales.
Susan, Denhurst’s’ Head of Activities, invited the Scouts along to their annual St David’s Day celebrations and the Scouts relished the opportunity to take part.
The Scouts made Welsh Cakes at their Hall on Siemens Street and walked up to Denehurst.
There they gave the residents a bunch of daffodils (the Welsh national flower) to each resident, along with the cakes.
Then followed stories of dragons, battles, kings, wizards and leeks with a rousing rendition of Tom Jones’ Delilah’.
Susan said: “We absolutely love it when the Scouts come to visit. They always make us feel very special.”
Skip, the Scout Leader said: “It always makes us feel very proud to visit Denehurst. The carers do a fantastic job of looking after the residents and if we’re able to help in any way we are always willing.
“Tonight has been something new for us and I think the Scouts have had as much fun as the residents.”
