Janine Humble, the activities co-ordinator at Church View Residential Home in South Church, organised a sponsored nine mile drop-off to raise funds for the residents comfort fund.
On Saturday 28th June five girls who all work at the home, Lisa Dowson, Sue Hewitt, Angela Sowerby, Sue Maleary and Emma Christian, were blindfolded and taken to a destination with no money or phones and given the task of finding their way back home from Billy Row.
The event was in memory of Nancy James from Shildon, whose husband Ray presented the girls with a trophy and individual medals.
The day raised a remarkable £565, including money raised by, Councillor Sam Zair.
Janine said “I would like to give a big thank you to the 5 girls, and everyone who sponsored them.”
