A beauty queen from Eldon is asking for help from local residents in raising awareness of the dangers at Eldon Cross Road.
Fifteen year-old Natasha is a grand finalist in the Miss Teen Great Britain 2014 competition, and will be representing Bishop Auckland at the contest in Blackpool on 29th August. Natasha is hoping to use the title’s prestige to launch an anti-speeding campaign targeted at the crossroads at the bottom of Eldon Bank, where there have been numerous accidents.
The fact that there are a large number of elderly residents living in the area and that there is a children’s park near the junction, with children crossing the road regularly, is also a major concern for the teen, and has prompted her to name the campaign ‘Kill Your Speed, Not Our Children’.
Due to a shortage of funds, Natasha is attempting to raise the money herself to provide more warning signs at the junction. She will be undertaking a sponsored walk with her sister Natalie, as well as bag packing at a local store and holding a raffle.
She will also be hosting a stall at Eldon Community Centre on Saturday 19th July.
All funds raised will go towards providing more warning signs and public awareness of the problem.
