A Spennymoor post office has been relocated to a new, more sustainable town centre location, thanks to council support.
The All Together for Spennymoor Board, administered by Durham County Council, has approved part funding to aid the move of Spennymoor Post Office, ensuring continued access to vital postal, banking and customer services for the community.
The project represents a collaborative effort between local partners committed to strengthening Spennymoor’s town centre, improving accessibility to key services, and supporting increased footfall for surrounding businesses.
Located on Cheapside in Spennymoor in the former Lloyds Bank, the new location will provide a modern and fit-for purpose environment for customers and staff, while maintaining convenient access to the wide range of services that thousands of residents in the town rely on.
Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said: “The Post Office plays a crucial role in the daily lives of residents, businesses and community organisations across Spennymoor. By supporting this relocation, we are helping to secure this essential service for the future, while contributing to the wider regeneration of the town centre.”
The relocation will also benefit from, and contribute to wider regeneration initiatives, including proposals for a new public car park on the former Spennymoor Library site and adjoining private land.
The relocation was also supported by The National Federation of Subpostmasters which, working with Post Office Limited, helped to secure funding to support with the move.
