Spennymoor swimming pool will reopen to the public this month following essential maintenance.
Durham County Council will reopen the pool at Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Monday 14 October after carrying out a series of refurbishment and essential maintenance works.
This includes installing a new water play feature and carrying out upgrades to the pool’s tank and plant room to make them more efficient and sustainable for the future.
The works make up part of the centre’s leisure transformation, as part of which a new Thrive kitchen, serving healthy food and drinks, and soft play will also open later this year.
The leisure centre’s reception area has also been moved to a more centralised location which reopened last year as part of the first phase of works.
When complete, the centre will provide enhanced leisure facilities as well as being the home for the town’s library.
Cllr James Rowlandson, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for resources, investment, and assets, said: “We’re pleased to be reopening Spennymoor’s swimming pool after a period of essential maintenance to upgrade its systems and add some exciting new features.
“We are progressing towards the final stages of Spennymoor’s leisure transformation and the completion of another revitalised centre.
“We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents by creating a modern leisure offer in County Durham that is accessible for all ages and abilities.
“These improvements to Spennymoor will create a new and diverse offer at the site, while also sustaining it for the future.”
