With just a third of the Northern League Division One season played, Shildon’s already slim promotion hopes looks all but over as they slid into the bottom half of the table after another crushing 3-0 defeat in Kendal. The defeat is Shildon’s seventh in fourteen games and comes after their exit from the FA Vase at Guisborough the previous weekend.
Two first half goals from James Bailey, in the 7th and 41st minutes left the Railwaymen with too steep a hill to climb in the second half and it was the home side who increased their advantage 18 minutes from time.
This weekend provides an opportunity to avenge that FA Vase defeat when the Priorymen visit Dean Street, although with promotion aspirations already out of reach, the midweek visit of Sunderland Silksworth CW in the Durham Challenge Cup may prove of more interest as one of the season’s final tilts at earning some silverware.
