Home Across County Durham Sjogren’s Information Stall

Sjogren’s Information Stall

There will be a Sjogren’s Disease leaflet and information stall in Durham Market on Saturday 28 June. This is in advance of World Sjogren’s Day which is on 23 July.

There are half a million people with this horrendous and complex disease and we would like to support those who have it, or think they may have it, as it appears to be very difficult to diagnose.

Some wait years to get a diagnosis due to lack of information.

The disease is a chronic autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own moisture-producing glands, particularly the tear and saliva glands.

This leads to symptoms like dry eyes and dry mouth, but can also affect other parts of the body. It’s a systemic disease, meaning it can affect the entire body, not just localized areas.

“Please do come along on the 28th,” said Jane Webber of Sjogren’s Support Group for Durham, Newcastle and District.

“Our thanks for help with this stall to James Wilson, Market Operations Manager and Adam Shanley, Durham City Parish Clerk.”
