Ferryhill bounced back after last week’s cup defeat with a comfortable 6-1 win over Consett Reserves, taking them up to second place in Wearside League Division 1, reports Fraser Reynolds.
The visitors were caught in the headlights from the start and couldn’t cope with Adam Morland’s pace. In the third minute he surged past two defenders to set up Mathew Agar, who had a simple tap in. Shortly afterwards, Morland’s solo run put him clear and he fired home from the edge of the box.
The visiting keeper was in constant action, but he couldn’t hold Quinn’s shot and Morland was first to react, setting up Agar for his second. Kieron Richardson got number four on thirty minutes and the Athletic were in complete command at this stage.
At half time, Consett brought on all seven of their substitutes, but they made little impact against Ferryhill’s defence which was superbly marshalled by man of the match, Jay White. On 70 minutes Agar outmuscled the visitors defence to grab a well taken hat-trick.
Liam Gibson, who was seconded for the day from the under 18’s, got in on the act and following a mazy run through the middle he kept his composure and made it six of the best for the Athletic. Consett never gave up and they got a consolation goal at the end through Johnson.
This Saturday, Ferryhill face a stiffer test when they entertain Hetton Juniors at Dean Bank with an earlier kick off at 1.30pm. This will be a very good game against one of the division’s promotion favourites.
