Shildon Under 14s came away from Eaglescliffe with a hard-earned draw on Sunday 16th November. The game was a magnificent spectacle for junior football, with both sides putting in an enormous amount of effort for the full 70 minutes. Eaglescliffe took the lead in the 10th minute after Shildon lost the ball in midfield and a ball over the top was missed by the Shildon defence for the attacker to lob Higham in the Shildon goal. The ball rebounded off the post but the Eaglescliffe striker was first to react and buried the rebound for the home side. Shildon took control of the game but several missed chances cost them as the half time whistle blew.
Shildon were at it from the off and as Shildon pressed forward Niall Higham made a magnificent save as Eaglescliffe burst through on a counter. This was the only chance the home side had in the second half and Shildon deservedly equalised in the 47th minute following a great move. Adam Campbell played the decisive ball for Ben Oliver to slide the equaliser home.
Shildon took complete control but struggled to get through a well organised defence, when the chances did come there were several near misses. Shildon are now in 2nd place and face the new league leaders Cargo Fleet at home on Sunday. Three 3 points will see Shildon hopefully back at the top of the league. Cain Smith was named Man-of-the-Match.
