Maddie-n-Rachel-NYSDShildon’s successful start to the outdoor track and field season continued as Triple Jumper Rachel McHugh finished 5th at the British Universities Championships in Bedford. While at the NYSD league fixture at Easbourne, Darlington, u13g Chloe Fairclough made her debut over the 1500m distance and came home in an excellent time of 5m 47s. Ben Etherington was next to run in the u11b 600m and he romped to a new pb of 2m 22.9s. Ryan Etherington followed his younger brother and also jumped a pb (1.6m) over in the high jump, which he followed with a season best over 200m (26s). Georgia Hirst also ran a season best of 27s in the graded 200m. The u13g 200m saw Rachel Bennett go to no.3 in the uk age group rankings with a fine 27.6s closely followed by the current uk. No.1 over the distance Maddie Wells. Amy Leigh Hutchinson completed the Shildon contingent with a 32.8s 200m.

The Senior women were competing in the Tees Barrage 10k and trio Liz Wood (43.28), Helen Race (55.34) and Hazel Johnson (52.52) all completed in new pb’s. David Johnson represented the club in the Sunderland Half Marathon and completed in a fine 1hr 35m 25s.

The Hackworth Parkrun saw a Shildon double as Cameron Stainsby (18.46 pb) was the overall winner and Liz Wood (21.13) led the women home. Ryan Watson (19.43s pb), David Beadle (20.57) and Chloe Fairclough (22.0 pb) completed the athletes.
